The Process
We don't manufacture rugs. We cultivate them. Each piece is the culmination of raw materials, human hands, and generations of inherited knowledge.
Raw Materials
We source only the finest New Zealand wool and sustainable bamboo silk. The wool is hand-carded and spun, preserving its natural lanolin to ensure the rug remains stain-resistant and durable for decades.
Natural Dyeing
The spun yarn is dyed using age-old techniques. We boil roots, bark, and minerals in massive vats, allowing the yarn to absorb colors unevenly. This creates the beautiful 'abrash' (color variation) that defines a true handmade rug.
Hand Knotting
Two to three artisans sit side-by-side at a vertical loom for months. Following a complex design map, they tie individual knots around the warp threads, cutting the yarn with a specialized knife in a rhythm that borders on meditation.
Washing & Finishing
Once removed from the loom, the rug is shaved to an even pile height, washed vigorously to soften the fibers, and stretched in the sun to dry. This final conditioning brings out the brilliant luster of the materials.
